A year ago we welcomed this poor girl into our care. She was in such terrible condition, we thought she was a senior.
Her fur was stained from cigarette smoke and she smelled horrific. We later learned her belly contained the remnants of ingested drug paraphernalia. Likely ingested when she was scrounging to eat whatever she could find on the floor.
Hope had been found by real estate agents, in a crack house, several days after the tenants were evicted. At her first vet visit, we learned she wasn’t a senior. She was a young cat severely malnourished and neglected.
As some of you may remember, Hope struggled with severe skin issues. For months and months, we tried everything. Dietary changes, skin treatments, medication. Finally, with daily doses of prednisolone and clomicalm (an antidepressant) she found relief. We were never sure if it was an allergy, if she was simply reacting to withdrawal from drugs or if she had anxiety from the trauma and severe neglect she experienced.
Finally Home
Hope found her forever home late last summer with her new mom, Victoria.
A quiet home with no other pets. The perfect environment for our sweet girl to continue her recovery. She settled in and loved being the centre of attention.
As per an update from Hope’s mom, she’s been off all her medication for two months now and she’s doing great. She sent this picture today. Look how beautiful she is! So fluffy. So relaxed. She loves her mom and plays like a kitten with her toys.
Hope has a much different life now and we honestly couldn’t be happier. We miss her still - how could you not fall in love with this sweet soul - so trusting and gentle despite all she’d been through. Hope got a second chance and we are forever grateful to everyone involved in getting her to safety and those who contributed to her care.
Hope is why we do what we do.
